Avoid this as a landing page: the homepage, with its menu, its five services and its welcome paragraph. People type the phrase when an advert is already running and the click opens the front door of the site. The visitor paid for, or you paid for, a specific promise. The homepage answers a different question.
A landing page can be one screen with one action. The homepage is a map of the business. Both are useful. They should not be the same URL. If the advert says boiler repair today, the page that opens should say boiler repair, with a number that dials. It should not start with a slider and a blog.
Why the homepage fails the click
The homepage has to introduce the company, list the services, point at the about page and offer a newsletter. That is a fair job for someone who searched the brand name. It is a poor job for someone who tapped an advert about one offer. They have to hunt. Most of them will not. They go back to the results, and the next click costs the same.
A menu across the top is an invitation to leave. About, services, gallery, contact, blog. Each one is a reason not to complete the action the advert asked for. The footer can link home. The first screen should not. This is the same point as one offer per page.
The words have to match
If the advert and the page disagree, the visitor assumes a mistake. Repeat the offer in the first line, in the same ordinary words. That is message match. A homepage headline such as "welcome to our family business" does not match "same-day call-out". The visitor is not wrong to bounce.
Sending paid traffic to the homepage is also listed among PPC landing page mistakes and in the older note on mistakes to avoid. The cure is a dedicated URL, not a longer menu.
What to use instead
One headline. One action: call, WhatsApp, or a short form. Proof that is real, or no proof. The price, if you publish a price. The area you actually cover. A thank-you line so a form is not tapped twice. That is a landing page. The rest of the website can stay where it is, linked after the action, not before it.
On a phone the button has to sit where a thumb can hit it. A number set as text inside a picture will not dial. Most of these clicks arrive on a phone. If the first screen is a wide photograph with the button below the fold, you have rebuilt the homepage problem on a new URL. The thumb-zone note is mobile CTAs.
What you can keep
You do not have to throw the website away. Keep the homepage for people who want the tour. Point the advert at the single-offer page. If you have three offers, use three URLs. Mixing them into one hero gives the click nowhere to land. A second service can wait until after the enquiry, or it can have its own page.
Ordinary search can have its own page too. Do not make the advert URL carry the blog, the gallery and the local listing. Speed matters more on a paid click because you already bought the visit. A heavy slider is a reason to leave before the button appears. See speed for paid traffic.
What we charge to build that page
Starter is £150. Most Starter pages are ready within 3 to 5 working days of the content. Business is £295, with fuller copy, extra sections and analytics, typically 7 to 10 working days. Premium is £495 and adds a second variant so you can test one change, plus priority on revisions. The first year of domain, hosting and SSL is included when we arrange them. Year two is £60, paid to the providers, not to the studio. If you already have hosting, you renew it yourself. Packages are on services. The studio is at 109A Brighton Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2NG. The work is remote, across the UK. We do not promise a conversion rate.
What to send
Send the advert and the URL it opens now. We will say whether that URL can be edited or should be replaced, and which package fits. The list of what setup includes is in what a setup includes. A wider set of faults, not only the homepage problem, is in typical landing page mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
Can the landing page live on the same website?
Yes. It can be one URL on the existing site. The advert should open that URL, not the homepage.
Do I need a new domain?
Only if you want one. The £150 price includes the first year of a domain when we set it up. Your own domain can stay yours.
Will you guarantee more enquiries?
No. We will make the next step obvious. The number of enquiries still depends on the offer and the traffic.
